LAHORE:

The government should consider reforms that suit Pakistan’s particular historical and institutional context rather than blindly adopt governance models from elsewhere, said a political scientist on Tuesday.

In a lecture on comparative governance and public management reform at the Punjab University’s Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS), Prof Tom Christensen said no country could have good governance through incorporated models. He said there was a need for clarity of thinking among political and administrative leaders. Prof Dr Haris Rashid, dean of the PU Faculty of Science and director of the Centre of High Energy Physics (CHEP), presided over the lecture. He said Pakistan should not blindly follow a reform policy set by international institutions like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.Former IAS director Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon said every country should tailor reforms to its own needs. Earlier, IAS director Dr Nasira Jabeen gave a welcome address.
