Law and order: Nawaz demands ban on parties’ militant wings

KARACHI:

Chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has demanded a ban on political parties with militant wings, calling on the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice against such parties’ participation in general elections.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after a breakfast meeting with the city’s eminent businessmen, Sharif said that it is crucial for the country to give priority to economic policy. The PML-N and the businessmen community, he said, will go hand-in-hand from now onwards, rather than compromising Pakistan’s dignity by begging for foreign aid.

The party chief further said that politics in handling the current flood situation should now be stopped and efforts for rehabilitating the affected population should be geared up.

He said that those responsible for the killings in Karachi have, among other things, ruined the country’s economy and should, therefore, be taken to task. “Law enforcement agencies should be given complete power to fix the militancy situation in Karachi,” he suggested.

Pakistan’s economy remains an integral part of the PML-N’s manifesto, he said, adding that ruling a country is synonymous to running an industry and when an industry suffers losses, shareholders raise questions. “It is imperative that all stakeholders play their role in ensuring that the government is going in the right direction,” he said.

Speaking about the chronic energy crisis, he said that the issue was exacerbated due to the government’s policies and indifference. “The procedure to privatise national institutions should be made transparent,” he said.

He asked the business community to make suggestions to the PML-N which, he said, the party will honour by implementing them.

I agree that if we want to clean up Karachi then all political parties with Militant wings should be banned to participate in general elections. Supreme Court already has JIT report pointing which parties have militant wings and torture cells. Government did not volunteer that report but now court has it let’s make it public.

We may criticize the messenger but can’t argue that there is a problem in Karachi which is affecting Law & Order situation. No one is safe. Businesses are forced to pay Bhata, which goes into coffers of these parties. Land is being grabbed by mafia. We may want to come up with any theories but all those who are doing this are real people. They live and sleep in Karachi under cover of these political parties.

No one is perfect, but that doesn’t mean nothing should be done. Let’s start from somewhere and this one is a good amen.

Although Mian Nawaz Sharif has his equal share in pushing Pakistan into a terrible mess in which we find our country today, yet he is right in demanding ban on such political parties which have the blood of innocent people of Karachi at their hands. As for as the question of Supreme Court banning such political parties is concerned, it may not be possible for them to impose the requisite ban because all the parties involved in this heinous crime have joined hands to thwart the expected judgment. They have forgiven each other’s sins and have withdrawn their allegations against each other in the so called larger interest of Pakistan. While the eyes of the hundreds of bereaved families are still wet with their tears, the killers of their kith and kin have forgiven the sins of each other as if nothing had happened. From the sudden patch up of all the accused political parties the impression one gathers is that those innocent souls who were killed by the target killers of the three political parties were not human beings as such there is no need to take account of their blood. Hence the covert message for the people of Pakistan is that in the larger political interest of the three political parties the nation is advised to forget the recent as well as all the previous bloodsheds in Karachi.Recommend

    @ Shan

Your comments are absolutely right but these are not relevant to the issue under discussion. There is no justification for perpetual killings of innocent people in Karachi. These killers under the patronage of three political parties have destroyed the peace and business in Karachi. Those who go out for work in the morning are never sure about their safe return in the evening. Entire city of Karachi is in the grip of fear and mourning. Traders are worried about their business and the national exchequer is suffering a daily loss of billions of Rs. It is therefore imperative that not only the target killer should be brought to justice but their political masters should also be punished with an exemplary punishment. This is what the entire civil society is demanding.
