Lawyers: ‘Democracy can bring us closer’

“The Indian lawyers played a vital role in the movement against corruption and Pakistani lawyers risked their lives for the restoration of independent judiciary,” Kalbeer Singh, the Chandigarh High Court Bar Association president, said on Thursday.

He was attending a tea party arranged by the District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed to honour the Indian lawyers’ delegation. A seven-member delegation, led by Singh, was received by the lawyers of the Lahore Bar Association. Singh said that the people of India and Pakistan strongly believed in supremacy of law and wished for peace and order in both countries. He said that both countries had a democratic government and adherence to democratic norms could bring both nations closer. The Indian delegation invited the LBA lawyers to visit India. Later, the Indian delegation was given a briefing on the working of courts in Pakistan.
