ISLAMABAD: The ninth National Children’s Mountain Conservation Meet began in Ayubia National Park, Nathiagali, on Friday. The eight-day event is being organised under the flag of Adventure Foundation Pakistan (AFP).

Under this programme, 120 children up to age 11 have been selected from all parts of Pakistan including Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK to attend a 10 days environment education camp. Aftab Rana, National Coordinator of NCMC Meet, informed that this project was launched on the occasion of  the ‘International Year of Mountains-2002’ with a view to create awareness among young people about mountains.

“We wanted to provide them with a meaningful activity using mountains as an open classroom,” he said. In this unique expedition of ‘action oriented learning,’ children get to live and travel through these pristine mountains to gain knowledge about their ecology and potential hazards to these areas.
