KARACHI: The 46th Defence Day of Pakistan was commemorated on Tuesday with patriotism and zeal throughout the country.
September 6 is marked to pay tribute to valiant soldiers, who died fighting for the defence of country.
The day dawned with the recitation of Quran in all the main mosques of the country and special prayers were offered for the souls of the martyrs.
Pakistan Air Force cadets presented the Guard of Honour and hoisted the national flag while a change of guard ceremony which was held at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Air Vice Marshal Hassan Raza offered prayers at the mausoleum.
Meanwhile, a change of guard ceremony was held in Lahore at the monument of Allama Muhammad Iqbal where a wreath laying ceremony was carried out by Major General Zafar Iqbal.
The Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif laid wreaths on the graves of martyrs of the 1965 war in Batapur and offered fateha prayers.
Zardari's message
President Asif Ali Zardari said on Tuesday that the citizens and armed forces have made exemplary sacrifices in the war against terrorism and extremism.
In his message on the 46th Defence Day, the president said the country is going through a crucial phase where it has to fight against terrorism and extremism at the same time.
He also appreciated the role of the armed forces in the war against terrorism. He said the whole nation salutes the soldiers who lost their lives in the fight against terrorists.

@Nurmomad: Go and read the History. The Lahore international was in sight of Indian forces. Anyway the 1965 war showed Yahya and yakub what Indian stuff is made of. ZAB (the then FM) was the one who approached UN (Like during Kargil NS approached US). 1965 war which Pakistan brought upon in India helped India to be rekoned as the emerging power in India and spelled disaster for Pakistan (its economy and military morale was badly affected). The results could be seen in 1971 war.
@Aadersh: Don't comment without doing ur homework. The passage i quoted is corraborated in defence notes written by Pakistan Army officers who took part in the war. You can also read their comments on"Operation "Grand Slam" "operation Gibraltor" (Tried to repeat the same in Kargil) "Patton Nagar", Lahore, sieze of Aiknoor and the U thant (the then UN SG). the role of China (and the rude shock it got from India) . I suggest read the cornicles of that war before you comment.

I don't consider them neutral whoever you r quoting...they might b Americans or British but they r so cheap to b bought...Mountbatten was also a Neutral person at the time of partition...isn't it?? All the wars with India were started by us and got defeated. Anyway, I have to salute our brave soldiers and military dictators who saved this country from disintegration by outside forces. I also recall that 90,000 of our brave soldiers surrendered to the Indian forces without any resistance during 1971. I also salute them in future if they are capable of avoiding the disintegration of our beloved country by inside forces.
A good way of honoring these soldiers is to publish the truth about the various wars/conflicts that these soldiers have been engaged in.
My only Dua is if I die for my Pakistan, God bring me back to life so I can do it again 1000 times

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 In mid-1965 Pakistan sent guerrilla forces into the Indian part of Kashmir in the hope of stirring up a rebellion that would either oust the Indians or at least force the issue back onto the international agenda. Pakistani forces did not find as much support among the Kashmiri population as they had hoped, but fighting spread by August, and a process of escalation culminated in a full-scale Indian offensive toward Lahore on September 6. Fighting, frequently very bitter, continued until a UN-sponsored cease-fire took hold on September 23. Both sides had tacitly agreed not to let the war spread to the East Wing of Pakistan.
The war was militarily inconclusive; each side held prisoners and some territory belonging to the other. Losses were relatively heavy--on the Pakistani side, twenty aircraft, 200 tanks, and 3,800 troops. Pakistan's army had been able to withstand Indian pressure, but a continuation of the fighting would only have led to further losses and ultimate defeat for Pakistan. The tragedy is that these young men put their lives in peril and die on battle field to save the corrupt bureaucracy and self-interested and unworthy rulers. The blood of martyrs is bartered for their personal comforts, riches and ill-gotten money of bureaucrats , Politicians and mafias. The resources of this country are pillaged and the plight of people remain what it was. Poverty is route to terrorism. The road to poverty is paved by no one other than dirty bureaucracy. The thefts from national exchequer, the squandering of the resources, the commissions, the tax evasion all add up to enhance unemployment and fuel terrorism. The first step in war against terrorism would be to hang few fat bureaucrats and bad reputed politicians. This will be a good beginning in putting Pakistan on right path. Families of the soldiers and officers who laid their lives must at all cost be compensated with thanks and honor.
