SIALKOT:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a total of 53 international human traffickers as well as their agents and sub agents during a crack down in July 2011. FIA deputy director Gujranwala Gul Sanobar Khan told reporters that the accused were wanted by the FIA for several months. Khan said that FIA’s special teams had raided various places in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Gujrat, Kamonki, Mandi Bahaud Din and Narowal during the last month. “We are trying to wipe out this trend in the district and so far we have caught a large number of human traffickers.

They are being questioned so we can trace the rest,” he added.

Khan said the accused were operating a large network and were promoting other illegal businesses as well. “They aren’t just sending people out of the country illegally by spinning tall tales of success but they are also trafficking drugs and other banned items,” he said. Khan said the accused had robbed hundreds of people out of millions of rupees with promises to send them abroad. He said that FIA has met with great success in its operation against traffickers and their agents. “The anti-human trafficking campaign is meeting with great success and the FIA has deployed more resources towards eliminating this trend completely,” he added.
