KARACHI: Six suspected militants were killed and three others injured in clashes with security forces in the Orakzai tribal agency and Swat on Saturday.

Three militants were killed in Mangaltan area of Swat. No security personnel were reported injured or martyred. Three other militants, including a commander, were killed when a militant hideout was blown up in Shekhan area of Orakzai agency.

Officials said clashes occurred during a search and clearance operation in the Arhanga Kandao locality of Dabori area.

The operation in Orakzai Agency started on March 24 and officially ended on June 1. The military says the current attacks in the area are “stabilisation operations”.

Since March, 150 suspected militant hideouts have been destroyed and more than 1,250 alleged militants killed. Meanwhile, three security officials were injured in a landmine blast in Mohmand Agency.

Security forces were on routine patrol in the Utam Kalay area of Bazai sub-division, when a landmine planted on a roadside exploded. Security forces cordoned off the area after the blast.

In Dera Ismail Khan district, militants targeted a police patrol with a remote-controlled bomb, killing a passerby and wounding five policemen, police official Ghulam Asghar said.
