ISLAMABAD: Standing committee on education has started verifying the authenticity of parliamentarians’ degrees.

Election commission has provided the degrees of 837 parliamentarians to the standing committee. The committee has forwarded these degrees to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for verification.

HEC’s chairman has asked for a duration of four weeks to verify the documents. He has further stated that the photographs on some of the degrees are not clear.

HEC has not yet recieved the degrees of 10 parliamentarians which can potentially delay the verification process.

HEC has formed a special committee headed by Chairman HEC, Dr Javed Laghari in this regard. Team includes Executive Director of Commission, Suhail H Naqvi and Director General Attestation, Rahim Baksh Chana.

Sources said that the committee members took oath to keep the information about verification of degrees secret.
