ISLAMABAD:
The demand of Pakistan’s sports goods and leather products continued to increase in fiscal year 2010-11 as their exports increased by 8.34% and 17.84%, respectively, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
Exports of sports goods stood at $323 million during July 2010 to June 2011 compared with exports worth $298.1 million in the preceding year. The highest increase was recorded in gloves export, which grew by 22.06%, going up to $119.8 million from $98.1 million.
Exports of other sports goods were recorded at $58.8 million against $48.4 million in the previous year, showing an increase of 21.38%, provisional figures released by FBS showed. However, the export of football showed a negative growth of 4.71% during the period. Football exports declined from $151.5 million to $144.3 million.
On the other hand, exports of leather products increased by 17.84% during the fiscal year under review. Leather goods exports stood at $540.4 million in 2010-11 against exports of $458.6 million in 2009-10.
Among leather products, the export of leather garments increased 18.42% to $405.7 million from $342.6 million. The export of leather gloves increased by 16.72% as it grew to $118.9 million from $101.8 million.
Exports of other leather products increased by 11.78% as these grew to $15.7 million from $14 million. The export of footwear increased by 17.3% as it increased to $108.7 million from $92.7 million, according to the data. The export of tanned leather goods surged by 21.38% as it went up to $462.2 million from $341.8 million.
