Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Barrister Masood Kausar Friday urged the tribesmen to cooperate with them to eliminate militancy from the tribal areas.

He was talking to the chiefs of three major tribes of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) at the Governor House. The leaders, Malik Nasrullah Khan Utmanzai Wazir, Malik Qadar Khan Madda Khel Wazir and Malik Mamoor Khan Turi, were called by the governor for a meeting to consult on matters pertaining to NWA.

Kausar said the government regards the tribesmen’s quest for peace highly and would take them along in every effort for peace and development in NWA. The leaders responded by saying they will maintain peace in the agency “at all costs”. The added that they wanted the region to prosper in all fields of life.

The governor assured the elders of the government’s commitment towards economic growth and development in tribal areas. He added that the tribesmen will be consulted in all matters pertaining to NWA through their elders and elected representatives.

“We are devising a mechanism to involve local elders in planning as well as for implementation of development projects,” said Kausar.

Rs1.5 billion hav been allocated for development projects in NWA in 2011-12, he added.

“The construction of Bannu-Ghulam Khan Road and other projects such as construction of dams, improvement in educational and health are some of the projects planned for the agency,” he said.

He said the tribal people are “highly talented” and all they needed were opportunities so that they can serve the nation and prove their mettle.
