ISLAMABAD: PML-N MNA Ajum Aqeel Khan who had been broken out of police custody by his supporters yesterday, surrendered himself to the police today.

IG Islamabad Binyameen confirmed that Khan handed himself over the police wilfully at the Kohsar police station in the presence of his lawyer.

According to the Express 24/7 correspondent Syed Ali, Khan had also been declared a proclaimed offender by a civil court, while a case of escaping from custody had taken the number of cases registered against him up to four, including one filed under section 780-A of the Anti-Terrorism act.

Ali said that while Khan himself had not made a statement, sources said that he had expressed fear. Furthermore, Khan’s lawyer said that his client was being victimised by the police.

Following his arrest, a large contingent of police transferred Khan to the Shalimar police station.

He will now also be appearing for a hearing in the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi.

On Friday evening, the MNA was arrested by Islamabad police following an FIR being filed against him in Shalimar police station. However, almost a hundred of his supporters and suspected PML-N workers descended upon Shalimar police station and broke him out.

Following this incident, Interior Minister ordered a judicial commission to be formed to look into the matter while he also ordered cases to be registered against the SP and the SHO of Shalimar police station.

The PML-N issued a statement, and a disciplinary committee would be formed to look in to the matter. It is believed that PML-N had on Saturday talked to Khan and pressured him to give himself up.

Raja Sanaullah, a PML-N leader and Punjab law minister yesterday said that if Khan is found complicit in his jailbreak, then the party would take strict action against him.
