Conditions at PIMS

At PIMS, cleanliness left much to be desired as test tubes were strewn on the floor

ISLAMABAD: Over the past few months, dengue fever has been spreading all over Pakistan. Hundreds of patients have been diagnosed with dengue and there is a huge influx of patients in government hospitals.

I visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) recently. It was sad to see such deplorable and unhygienic conditions of a hospital on which most people rely. In the capital of the country, conditions at PIMS give indications of conditions in other hospitals and of the overall state of the health sector in the country.

At PIMS, cleanliness left much to be desired as test tubes were strewn on the floor. Few doctors were on duty to attend to the patients, and sadly their behaviour with the patients was unprofessional. The number of beds was highly inadequate and patients were lying on the floor. How could a patient recover from illness in such undesirable conditions? I urge the authorities concerned to take necessary steps for the betterment of our health sector. Those visiting hospitals should try to keep them clean.
