ISLAMABAD:

Anjum Aqeel Khan, an MNA of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Saturday demanded the government to constitute a judicial commission to probe into National Police Foundation (NPF) scam, in which he has “unnecessarily” been implicated.

Addressing a press conference here at the National Press Club on Saturday, Khan said he would defend himself and prove his innocence before the commission.

He said his political opponents had levelled allegations of corruptions against him which were politically motivated and were completely baseless.

He explained that he had been working with NPF since 1997, and several development projects had been completed by the foundation under his leadership.

He said the police raided his house during investigations, which disturbed his privacy. “The police also registered two FIRs against me, which is a clear violation of rules and regulations,” he remarked.

Responding to a query, Khan said he had reached a settlement with the NPF, which was not a crime under any law.

An FIR was registered with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against Khan along with Iftikhar Ahmed, Mian Amin, Abdul Hanan, Nafees Ahmed and Khuda Bakhsh, who is a former deputy director of NPF.

Earlier, an FIR had also been registered with the Shalimar police against the same people for the same case.

These people were accused for being involved in corruption worth Rs6 billion in several land purchases by the NPF. Khan’s company Land Linkers was chosen to procure land for a housing scheme in Sector E-11 of the federal capital for constructing a police colony in the sector.

According to FIA officials, the case was registered when the Supreme Court took a suo motu notice in the case on June 21. The court had ordered the managing director of FIA to take action against irregularities and corruption in the NPF scam.
