LAHORE: The gap between the demand and supply of electricity rose to 1200 Mega Watts on Thursday, as the temperatures across the country continue to rise.

Currently, outages are lasting four hours in urban and eight hours in rural areas.

According to a PEPCO spokesman total electricity generation is at 12,900 MW while demand is around 14,100 MWs.

He further informed that around 5,000 MW of electricity is being generating through hydral while 2,300 MW of electricity is being producing by thermal process.

IPPs remain the biggest contributor to the total supply.

PEPCO claims that the loadshedding is necessitated by the increased demand during day time.

Gas shortage causing Rs200 million losses per day

Industrial life in Faisalabad has been paralyzed as over 400 factories remain closed for a second consecutive day.

Sui Northern Gas Pipeline authorities claim there will be two gas holidays a week only till end of this month.

This gas load management plan has been put in place to deal with the severe gas shortage caused by suspension of gas supply from the Zamzama gas field.

However, industrial associations complain that even a single day of closure of textile units results in losses worth over Rs200 million.

Chairman Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Aftab Ahmed demanded the Prime Minister to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to industries.
