COLOMBO:

Sri Lanka and Pakistan will begin talks in Islamabad to expand trade and review the implementation of a free trade deal, a pact which gave more liberty to people of both countries to exchange goods, Lanka business online reported on Saturday.

A delegation from Sri Lanka, led by trade minister Rishad Bathiudeen, has already left for Pakistan, the island’s trade ministry said.

Trade ministry sources said that in addition to reviewing a Sri Lanka- Pakistan Free Trade Agreement, Colombo will also push for cutting duties imposed on Sri Lankan agro products and betel leaves from Pakistan.

Annual trade between the two countries stood at US$346 million.
