AMSTERDAM:

In a fast and furious last six minutes, Pakistan lost the lead, regained and settled for a 2-2 draw with England at the Rabo 4-Nation Cup.

The day’s other match – which like the England Pakistan clash had been held over because of a thunderstorm – saw hosts Netherlands beat archrivals Germany 2-1. Sohail Abbas opened the scoring with his 328th goal for Pakistan, slotting home their only penalty corner.

However, he was suspended later in the match, followed immediately by Richard Smith equalising for England. Shakeel Abbasi scored a short-handed goal, two minutes from time before Barry Middleton netted the equaliser seconds later.

Khwaja Junaid, Pakistan manager, said Abbas is approaching complete fitness.

“His fitness is much better than at the World Cup and we are focusing on him for the 2012 London Olympics,” said Junaid.

The tournament, now a round-robin competition without a final, will see Pakistan facing Germany today.
