QUETTA:

A vehicle of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was attacked by armed militants in Mastung on Saturday. However, no casualty has been reported.

According to the police, the UNHCR coach, carrying Afghan refugees, was going to Afghanistan from Karachi when unidentified armed men opened fire on it on the National Highway near Mastung. As a result, the two tyres of the vehicle exploded and the driver was forced to stop the vehicle. The assailants managed to escape from the scene.

Police officials said UNHCR officials were also present in the coach, but they escaped unhurt in the attack.

A case has been registered against the unknown persons and an investigation is under way. No organisation has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack is the first time that a UN vehicle was attacked, since John Soleki, the UNHCR Chief in Balochistan was kidnapped and subsequently released years ago.
