RAWALPINDI:

A jilted lover had his revenge by shooting dead not only the girl who had refused his proposal but also her sister. A third sister was injured by the enraged young man. The sisters were living in a women’s hostel on Aziz Bhatti Road, Tariqabad.

Asad Ali, a resident of Mohanpura, is alleged to have burst into the Noor Group of hostels’ premises situated at Aziz Bhatti Road, Tariqabad, at around 1pm on Monday and committed the double murder in a fit of rage.

The three sisters, Saira Noor, Saima Noor and the injured sister Sobia Noor, all natives of Attock District, 80km north-west of Rawalpindi, were living in the women’s hostel.

Shah Jan, the mother of the three sisters, in her complaint to the police said that Asad Ali wanted to marry Saira but she had declined the proposal. Both Asad and Saira had been working in a private office situated at Saidpur Road, she said. Asad was hurt and felt disgraced by the object of his passion. He could not tolerate the idea of Saira marrying another man of her choice.

“My daughters were running the hostel to earn their livelihood for the last many years,” said the mother of the deceased. On Monday, Jan along with her brother came to the hostel to meet with her daughters. “As we reached outside the hostel, I saw Ali along with two other men going inside the hostel in a car,” she said. The mother followed him inside the facility only to see him opening fire at her daughters.

The native of Jand Basal, Attock, told The Express Tribune that Asad Ali wanted to marry her daughter Saira and the rejection might have forced the suspect to commit such a crime.

Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Mian Imran Abbas, said the hostel was housed in a rented building where most of the girls residing were students.

He said at the time of the incident majority of the girls were out for studies at their respective institutions and the private guard of the hostel had gone to drop them (students).

The police officer said the ages of the two deceased sisters were from 22 to 25 years, while the injured was the youngest.

Only the post-mortem report of the victims could determine the cause of death, but the two sisters received bullet injuries at their chests. The third one was shot at in the arm and the jaw, added SI Abbas.
