Three people, including two children, were killed, and 17 others, including five Frontier Crops (FC) personnel, were injured in a remote-controlled blast in Panjgur on Saturday.
Banned outfit Lashkar-e-Balochistan claimed responsibility for the incident, saying that they were targeting FC personnel.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Pangur Jamil Ahmed, an explosive device was attached to a motorbike, which was parked near the Bismillah Chowk. The device was detonated by a remote-control just as an FC convoy passed through the area.
As a result of the explosion, three passers-bys, including two boys in their early teens, died on the spot, while 17 others, including five FC personnel, sustained splinter wounds. The vehicle was also damaged in the explosion.
“It was a remote-controlled blast and was aimed at an FC convoy,” Ahmed said.
The personnel cordoned off the area soon after the blast and initiated a search.
The deceased and injured were taken to the FC medical camp, while some of the injured were referred to the District Head quarters hospital. “We received six injured people, all of whom were civilians,” sources at the hospital said.
The deceased were identified as teenagers Nasir Ahmed and Mohammad, and Abdul Khaliq, an employee of the Sessions Court.
Calling from an undisclosed location, the spokesperson of Lashkar-i-Balochistan, who introduced himself as Lawang Baloch, told the media that his organisation had carried out the attack. “The target was an FC convoy and five personnel were killed,” he claimed.
