Pakistan re-elected to IAEA board of governors

Pakistan was re-elected to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) board of governors for the second time on Thursday, Radio Pakistan reported.

The election was held at the agency headquarters in Vienna. Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Muhammad Naeem led the delegation.

The IAEA board of governors consists of 35 members. Of these, 11 are elected for a two-year term.

The IAEA is an international organisation which promotes the peaceful use of nuclear energy and inhibits its use for any military purpose including nuclear weapons. It reports to the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
