LAHORE:

The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) will cancel the membership of lawyers that represent the person or persons accused of killing two of its members, the general house of the LBA decided through a resolution on Tuesday.

The LBA set up a “progress committee” of three LBA vice presidents and two general secretaries to follow the cases of the two female members who were killed in Defence and Harbanspura. LBA president Shehzad Hassan Shaikh said that he would personally supervise the committee.

Free Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement chairman Advocate Anis AA Saadi said the LBA resolution was a violation of the rights of the defendant, as everyone had the right to engage a lawyer to defend themselves in a court of law.

Also on Tuesday, Supreme Court Bar Association president Asma Jahangir condemned the murder of Advocate Anjum Akbar and pressed the government and police to find her killers immediately.
