KARACHI:

Desperate to don the national colours again, leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has submitted the clearance letter from him former county Essex to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB Integrity Committee, which refused to clear Kaneria for the ongoing Test series against the West Indies, had asked the leg-spinner to provide the letter as a requirement before playing for Pakistan.

Kaneria, along with teammate Mervyn Westfield, were questioned by Essex police after allegations of spot-fixing emerged during a Pro-40 match against Durham in 2009.

While Westfield was charged, Kaneria was cleared of any wrongdoing after the initial investigation. However, Kaneria failed to convince the PCB Integrity Committee and has been out of favour for national selection since last year.

However, Kaneria is hoping that the committee gives him the go-ahead after he submitted the clearance letter.  “I’ve submitted the clearance letter from Essex to the PCB,” Kaneria confirmed to The Express Tribune.

“I’ve sent two copies, one to the PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt and the other to the Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed,” said Kaneria.

“I’ve fully cooperated and I had submitted all the other documents pertaining to my case before as well. Clearance certificates from the ICC and the Essex Police have also been given.”

Kaneria said that he was hopeful of playing for the country again.

“I don’t see any doubt since I’ve made everything available,” said Kaneria, who has taken 261 wickets in 61 Tests.

PCB yet to receive letter

Meanwhile, the PCB stated that it had not received the letter yet and will respond after the Integrity Comittee looks into it.
