JHANG:

Police officials allegedly tortured a cop and included his name in an already registered case on Friday. Jhang Saddar police arrested constable Mazhar Abbas and allegedly tortured him in a private facility before sending him to jail.

Abbas’s name was included in an already registered case and he was locked up on Friday.

According to a source in the police station, the constable was severely beaten and tortured by five police officials for several hours on Thursday night.

The police alleged that Abbas had opened fire on officials at a police cordon after they signaled to him and his unidentified accomplices to stop.

Abbas’s brother Umer Hayat said they were engaged in a shoot out with their long time rivals in the village and that the Saddar SHO was a good friend of their rivals.

Umer said that the police apprehended his brother in this regard and were blaming him for the incident. SHO Amir Mushtaq said the constable was not tortured and that his name was included in the case for his involvement.
