KARACHI:

Residents of Zamzama and adjoining areas took to the streets Monday night to protest against an electricity blackout that they claimed had lasted approximately ten hours.

The protesters said that other areas of Defence were also affected but the Karachi Electric Supply Company had restored their supply in the evening. However, Zamzama still remained without electricity even though repeated complaints were made.

The residents burnt tyres and shouted slogans against the KESC management, saying that they were apathetic to their plight.

A heavy contingent of police and law-enforcement agencies reached the scene and negotiated with the residents, assuring them of a meeting with the power utility company’s management.

After protracted talks, the protesters disbursed and returned to their homes.
