Getting bored at work? Have nothing to do? Feeling out-of-touch with the rest of the world? Join the group because you are going through Facebook withdrawal symptoms. Being away from it has got me mulling over the idea of having a Facebook account. Isn’t it simply useless?
Surely, technology has evolved and it is understandable that we all like following the most up-to-date methods of staying in touch with friends and family – in days when writing letters, emails and chatting via MSN are all so passé – it is now more aplomb to write on people’s ‘walls’. But the truth is that we all do more than just that. Let me confess, I am guilty. I am guilty of wasting time stalking other people. And aren’t we all?
Don’t you think life without the ‘Banbook’ has become much simpler? While at college, I once updated my status to: “If I fail my finals, it will be Facebook’s fault!” Although I didn’t flunk any exams, I’m sure all that time I squandered over this website could have been spent taking a relaxing stroll on the greens to release exam stress. To give the devil its due though, the ban is actually a blessing in disguise for all, particularly in terms of time-management. Now, I don’t have to uselessly follow other people’s lives and be on top of unnecessary details like who got engaged this summer? Or, how many friends I have in common with an acquaintance?
I miss Facebook, but now I have become more productive and on time for all deadlines at work. I also have a lot more time to myself – to spend with family and outdoors — which otherwise would have been gobbled-up looking up some distant relative’s summer vacation photos. I agree that the networking site is a good way of looking up old friends, staying in touch with those abroad, and promote noble causes, it is also a major distraction, an addiction, and a meaningless way of social interaction.

Agreed. Totally.
Ban Facebook for LIFE!Recommend
Ban it or not but I reckon FB has lately emerged as the most overrated social networking site in town.Recommend
Voice from the heart!! You are so true… Facebook has consumed so many productive hours of my life! I am so much better without it! I finished 2 books, read scores of articles, and most of all studied some good hours ever since the bann has been imposed.
Besides, i know some friends who wasted plentiful hours downloading songs and videos from youtube. Porn was another concern on the same website. Now that the website is banned I feel our society has been chastisized! Though I sometimes crave to use the website for my assignment related to media, I am relaxed as the positivities generated are far more than the troubles!

since facebook is gone i am happy to be less of a farmer and cafe owner and more of a work person at work! it was starting to get on the nerves of my colleagues, the ritual of every morning farming and cafe doing. I am so glad FB decided to be banned :PRecommend
I am gonna have to agree with this article as i am going through a similar post FB productive era :)…. have got quite a bit of work done and the tasks that i had left which were not due anytime soon … have kick started those tasks and have almost completed them.
There were days when i had not much on my hand to do i spent hours on FB….and i literally felt guilt afterwards. For this and many reasons i deep down inside pray that Fb never returns!Recommend
yea its very true,we just wasted too much valueable time on FB,we are doing nothing productive there and if we do,no one actually want to listen to it,so there is no outcome its better to quit FB.Recommend
Face book should be permently banned. It has consumed so many productive hours of a young’s life. We have to work hard to build up image of a Pakistani Muslim. It’s not the time of talking, chating and to exchange of picturs. It’s time to do something practically. So please don’t waste your time in such kind of activities.Recommend
I would beg to differ. Yes it is very distracting and yes we waste countless hours on it. But calling the ban a blessing in disguise I feel is a bit unjust. What about freedom and personal liberties I think banning Facebook was a step back for a nation. It showed what our tolerance levels are and how emotionally we react to things. What was to be achieved from the ban I still find very hard to understand. If it would have remained open it might have been a very good platform to unite the nation and voice our opinions but I feel its an opportunity lost. Those countless hours we spent looking up for distant relatives summer vacation pictures could have been used for something more relevant which would have helped us bond as a nation and voice our opinions.
I worked in a firm where Facebook was initially blocked but in due to time it was opened because it was proven that one is a more productive work ant if there is a good balance of work and personal life. Also having an open facebook platform gives us a chance to mature take responsibility for our own actions and be accountable for what we do. It’s always better then having someone hold our hand and show us the way.
But then again this just my point of view and people usually don’t agree with me.Recommend
I agree with fahad shamsi… people dont agree with him and his idiotic, non sensical view points.
Facebook was banned as a notion of protest against Facebook’s inability/non desire to close down the blasphemous page. We voiced our protest… it forced Facebook to apologise, it got other Muslim countries to take appropriate action as well, Bangladesh case in point.
I want Facebook banned forever unless they make it a policy not to allow such blasphemous pages… after all immediate action is always taken against a page denouncing the Holocaust, Jews, etc… what makes this any different.

Mr Adeel Ahmed.
Actions speak louder than words. I would suggest you should delete your Facebook account. I honestly think you will lead by example and it will help your cause. There are those who say things then there are those who back their words with actions!!Recommend
Dear Mr. “I just proved your point and made myself look like a complete idiot” Shamsi,
It is with great pleasure I tell you that I got off facebook (yes I deleted my account) on May 18, 2010.
How is that for actions speaking louder than words… or leading by example…. of backing words with action eh?
Had you not been so quick to react and utter absolute garbage and done a little research, you would have saved yourself this humiliation.
Anyways, hope you have learnt a valuable lesson.
Regards,
Adeel.Recommend
