KARACHI: ‘Smile Train International’ and the Civil hospital’s Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery have been holding free surgical camps in Sindh. The camps treat birth defects such as cleft lip and cleft palate that occur once in every 400 live births in Pakistan. They include free surgeries, general anaesthesia and medicines. Thirty-eight of these camps have been held so far and have benefited about 6,000 patients. The teams follow up on the patients a week after surgery. The team includes Prof Mohammed Ashraf Ganatra, Dr Asad Awan, Dr Zafar Ali, Dr Alamgir Shah, Dr Sohail Arain and Dr Saeed Solangi and technician Nasrullah Qazi. The next camp will be held at Murshid Hospital, Karachi, on Hub River Road from May 6 to May 8.
