Fauzia Wahab has been accused of blasphemy by the Justice Lawyers Group. (APP)
LAHORE: The Justice Lawyers Group on Tuesday filed a petition against an SHO for not registering an FIR against Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab.
The convener of the lawyers group, Sohail Baig Noori accused Wahab of blasphemy by indulging in ‘loose talk’ culminating into a defamatory statement about Hazrat Omar. He alleged that Fauzia Wahab compared President Asif Ali Zardari to the caliph.
The group also accused Wahab of comparing the Pakistan Constitution to the Holy Quran which the lawyers said is blasphemous.
The Court ordered a notification to the SSP investigation to inquire into the incident before any such FIR is registered.
If the case is registered and goes to court, the maximum penalty, if convicted, for the crime is life imprisonment and the minimum is three years imprisonment.

Done. Thank you for pointing it out Sadaf. (Web Editor)Recommend
Justice Lawyers Group should not be so ‘loose’ with the concept of blashfamy that even a comparison of, somebody with some body, may make one blashfamous.
I would have prefered to accuse Fauzia Wahab for flattery, which may not be a cognizable offence but definitely not a good thing and doesn’t suit a person like her. Moreover, to flatter Mr.Zardari may be her personal affair but to flatter the President amounts to rediculing him, which, I am sure, she didn’t intend to.Recommend
this is disgusting! Now our politicians can’t speak out for fear of being labelled as blasphemers by the likes of Ansar Abbasi!Recommend
You r welcome :))Recommend
I am sure she did not mean to say what she said.Recommend
Can’t believe people here defending her!!!!!!Recommend
It wasn’t comparing someone with someone, its simply a case of saying constitution is superior then Quran!Recommend
She has issued an objectionable statement which definitely needs to be condemned but probably she could not phrase her statement correctly and point out the controversy existing in our system.
We are hanging in between Islamic Shariat and Constitution and take advantage of any thing and whenever it suits the politicians, which is totally incorrect, ethically, morally and as per Islamic teachings.
In fact we should be “Islamic” & “Democratic” as per our name but unfortunately we are neither. None of our rules should be against the Islamic teachings / Shariah but the dilema is that our constitution has been prepared by the people who were oriented towards their personal gains and wanted to have legal protections, whereas Islam lays down very strict restrictions on the rulers who in fact are supposed to be demonstrating personal example of high moralities and character traits.
Ruling is more of a responsibility than enjoying the benefits of that particular appointment at what ever level it is.
As a matter of fact custodian of a “Chair of Responsibility” whether he is President or at the lowest level of governmental authority is never exempted or given “Immunity” rather he is charged & punished for two offences if he commits any as compared to a normal citizen who commits the same offence. One for the offence itself and secondly he is liable to punitive actions for “Breach of Trust bestowed upon him”
Therefore if we are Islamic, Democratic country, our constitution needs to be corrected and this is where the Supreme Court and the “Islamic Nazriati Counsil” should have come into play but unfortunately none of them is performing their duties. They all are oriented towards personal securities and gains.Recommend
i came across a link yesterday,,felt like sharing it.. Fouzia must read this…

It is high time she was accused of something that would make her a bit more careful about how she speaks and what she says. She has an unfortunate set of public speaking skills, which is surprising considering her role. Maybe this will make her think before she speaks?Recommend
What she said, mistakenly or deliberately ,
apology is must and i believe she will do,
it is matter of religion, should fear from Allah Almighty.
There is no book like Quraan and there is no muslim ruler like hazrat Ummer,
as islamic history says.Recommend
Fauzia wahab has no basic knowledge of islam,if she had she does not say her false statement. She said pakistan costitution is sperior than HOLY QURAN ,I think she does not read(recite) HOLY QURAN ever in her life. She should forgive from ALLAH for her wrong statement.Recommend
Can I ask all who are commenting on the matter and treating this as blasphemy, or unholy, have they heard exactly what she said? Have you seen the program in which she said Constitution is supreme than Quran? If you have not and are just writing or commenting based on a headline, then you yourself are committing fitna!Recommend
Dear Fauzia Wahab, Kindly Teach us how boil an egg ……. The Ministers of Pakistan are Good for nothing.Recommend
There is no book like Quraan and there is no Muslim Ruler like Hazrat Umer (Radhiallah Anho),
History says.
and we must follow their rules for success.Recommend
she is mad woman she did not think that what she is saying she forgave her sinRecommend
She never said any thing wrong. I watched that programe. Our people are emotional with reference to our religion and they forget that accusing some one for what has not happened in also a “sin”. Giving witness for some thing which is not true is also “sin”. Therefore i request all of you to analyse yourself then make your opinion. Do not follow blindly to some “for sale” journalists or “for sale” mullahs.Recommend
Whatever Fauzia Wahab has said is completely justified, a bunch of religious fanatics have totally blown her statement out of proportion and now issuing statements to come into limelight.
Nobody actually knows what exactly did she say but since she’s from PPP, she ll be targeted!Recommend
There is absolutely no justification in putting Zardari and Umar (RA) in the same sentence.
“By God, he that is weakest among you shall be in my eye the strongest, until I have vindicated for him his rights; he that is strongest I will treat as the weakest, until he complies with the law.” Umar (RA)
Do Fauzia Wahab and Zardari or for that matter any leader of any country in the world come even close to saying publicly and then acting upon it with passion what Umar (RA) said and did during his caliphate? NO!!!Recommend
@ Rauf,
Why you guys conveniently forget that it was Aitezaz and other opposition leaders who first dragged Hazrat Umar RA into this issue and issued statements on media that if Hazrat Umar RA could present himself for accountability why not Zardari.
Fauzia Wahab has just responded to those statements.Recommend
in a way her statement was correct. i dont think she was comparing anyone. ur country constitution says president has immunity that means he cant be called in court. on the other hand i dont have any knowledge quran says anything on this matter.Recommend
@ Danish.. At the time of Hazrat Omer R.A, Hazrat Usman R.A, Hazrat Abu Bakar R.A and Hazrat Ali R.A, the the Qazi or mufti, equaled the chief justice/justice of today. At that time the Qazi/mufti had full authority to call in court anyone whom he considered guilty; be it the Caliph of the time.
If our constitution says our President has immunity against all cases filed against him, means that its against the Islamic teachings.Recommend
Iam feeling shame to see such an idiot …
