HEC’s move is likely to put a dent into the dominance of the local CA.

LAHORE:

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has granted equivalence to ACCA qualification to a Masters level degree.

A circular issued by HEC states that: “(The) HEC recognises the membership of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) after completion of professional qualification and other requisites including training and required professional experience as equivalent to Masters of Commerce degree awarded by Pakistan universities.” Arif Masud Mirza, head of ACCA Pakistan said: “This is a bold step by the HEC and shows it is very much in touch with the changing demands of a highly-skilled labour market.” The move is likely to increase the value of the qualification.

In my opinion this is a foolish step, especially when its origin does not even accept this qualification as a bachelor’s degree. To obtain a BSC, an ACCA has to write a thesis…
Following is an excerpt from ACCA Global web site:

BSC IN APPLIED ACCOUNTING AWARDED BY OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY
ACCA will provide you with additional opportunities on the way to becoming a qualified accountant. Through our unique partnership with Oxford Brookes University, you can gain a BSc Honours degree in Applied Accounting either while you complete your ACCA studies or after gaining your ACCA Qualification. The combination of a degree and a professional qualification will put you in demand with employers and increase your career opportunities.

i think kits a very bad decision because if we will complete acca along with required experience then masters degree of pakistan is not a valuable for us it can be valuable if it will award on completing acca doesn’t matter about the experience .If u r acca then who will give importance on masters as for as pakistan is concern??? It,s good. If now I,ll try to improve my education in Pakistan then due to HEC this decision, it will be easy for me to get admission in some university in Pakistan. This decision by HEC will encourage ACCA students.

its good for those people whoz hve nt bachelor degree.but i would say that after gain 14 papers we need more not like M.com & master degree.because pakistani degree is not demandable all over the world.but acca is giving good opporturnity..Recommend

LOL ICAP keeps reducing exemptions for ACCA members while HEC keeps increasing the equivalency. Why can’t these two organisations come to a common agreement as to the value of an ACCA qualification? Even by HEC’s own standards this is contradictory. That is because HEC considers ICAP CA to be equivalent to M.COM too but ICAP only considers ACCA to be equal to 5-7 of its 14 papers and 0 credit towards 3.5 year articleship.Recommend
