Seminar raises awareness about diabetes

Roche Pakistan Limited has introduced Accu-Check Performa to protect patients from diabetes. The ratio of negative behavior in human beings, blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems is considerably high in Saarc countries. The reason leading to such diseases is imbalanced diet and unhealthy meals. This was said by speakers in a performa day seminar organized by Express Media Group and Roche Pakistan Ltd.


Dr Javaid Akram said that 14 per cent of people in metropolitan areas and 11 per cent in rural areas are suffering from diabetes. He said that government must focus on diabetes control program to raise awareness among masses and prevent the disease from spreading. Country Manger Roche Shabbir Halai stressed on the role of media and said that an awareness message advising self monitoring and preventive measures from diabetes should be run on TV channels.

Chief of Roche Sohail Malik said, Roch introduced blood gluco meter in 1982 and we are trying to invent new and easy to use instruments to facilitate diabetes patients. Analyst and an Express News anchor Javaid Chaudry said he is a diabetic and after research on this disease he has learnt that we should not get afraid of diabetes but we have to deal with it.
