University of Balochistan: Students protest for degree recognition
Teachers and students staged a demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club.
QUETTA:
Teachers and students of the pharmacy department at the University of Balochistan (UoB) staged a demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club. Pharmacists are not given jobs only because the Pharmacy Department of the UoB is not formally recognised making the degree worthless, protesters said. Earlier, addressing a news conference, Dr Ahmed Hadi and Dr Rehmatullah Khan said the pharmacy council had told the Public Service Commission and other institutions not to induct fresh pharmacists from UoB since the pharmacy department of the university is not recognised. The protesters raised slogans against the council and the pharmacy association and demanded that the pharmacy degree from the Balochistan University be recognised. “The future of students is at stake,” they said. Students and teachers threatened that if their demand is not met, they would raise the issue at the International Pharmacy Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Lahore on April 28.
