Express May 21, 2010

KARACHI:

Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, was elected unopposed as Senator on the ticket of PPP from Sindh.

Speaking to the media, the Sindh Election Commissioner said that since no other party fielded its candidate against Dr Hafeez, therefore, he has been elected unopposed.

The Senate seat was vacant after the resignation of former finance minister Shaukat Tareen.

Dr Hafeez is likely to present the budget of next fiscal year in the first week of June after assuming the charge as finance minister.

Dr Hafeez has served as the minister for privatisation in the previous regime of General (retired) Pervaiz Musharraf.
