Rising abuses: ‘239 sexually assaulted in 3 months’

Sexual violence against women and children is on the rise in Pakistan, a report compiled by an NGO said on Wednesday.

At least 239 women and children were reported to have been raped or molested in the first three months of the year, Madadgar said in a press release.

According to the report, 870 cases of violence and child abuse, 1,122 cases of violence and women abuse had been reported in the local print media between January 1 and March 31.

Over the same period, 98 children were murdered and 123 others were injured. It said 33 more children were raped, 24 sodomised, while 55 cases of molestations were reported.

Grace | 13 years ago | Reply @Uzair: I think it's more important for the corrupted people to change. After all, laws in themselves change nothing until people themselves change. Look at all the folks who cry the police is asking for bribes but they are the first to offer a bribe when they do something bad. There are sexual predators in all countries but laws alone won't stop it. Look at he US or any western country, despite tough laws, not a day passes where some woman or child is sexuall abused.
