The cannibal story

Letter April 08, 2011
It is absolutely necessary to have such people treated as mental patients.

KARACHI: This is with reference to Dr Mohammad Ali Rai’s article of April 9 titled “The cannibal story: Underneath the drama”. I am glad that Dr Rai has pointed out the crucial need to review the state of mental healthcare in the country.

It is absolutely necessary to have such people treated as mental patients, or at least help others be aware of the signs of such depravity amongst members of society.

I also feel that everyone is talking about only two things: That they are disgusted by this incident or that the two brothers need to be punished. I think only one psychologist has so far said that they need to be studied. Also, no one is talking about the fact that the police were unable to detect the fact that these men killed their children or that even now the police lack any resources that would help track such criminal behaviour. The children who were killed disappeared from their immediate surroundings and someone should have alerted the police.
