ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Inter-Provisional Coordination Mian Raza Rabbani has clarified his position in response to a story printed in The Express Tribune on March 22 headlined “Average senator’s wealth rises 67% in 2010.”

The story stated that wealth of Raza Rabbani increased from Rs6 million in 2009 to Rs56.3 million in 2010.

Rabbani clarified that since he started to file his income tax returns/declaration of assets and liabilities before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he has continuously been declaring a house namely, 79 CMA Colony, Masjid Road, Lahore Cantt, to be a gifted property in his name, gifted by (his) father.

He explained that the said property was sold by him through a registered sale deed at a price of Rs48.5 million in the year 2009. The said amount “has been deposited by me” in a term deposit in the Standard Chartered Bank at Karachi. The said term deposit has been shown in income tax returns and the declaration before the election commission.

It may be noted that this was done at the first available opportunity i.e. in returns of 2010, he said and added that he resigned from the cabinet of PM Gilani and went back to his law firm with a senior partner.
