Twelve people die as strong wind lashes near Head Marala

Strong winds destroyed a number of houses in various areas, burying scores of people under the rubble.

SIALKOT: Strong winds lashed areas near Head Marala in Sialkot and destroyed a number of houses and resulted in the death of twelve people.

It caused destruction in Naqadpur, Macharala, Eid-Gah, Dera Bhattian and Bahadarpur areas of the district.

Dilapidated houses caved in following the storm, burying scores of people including women and children under the rubble.

Strong winds also knocked down poles and trees in the areas.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to restore electricity in the areas on the directives of Federal Minister for Information Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan.

    Very little information is available in national media about this storm. I am not a weather expert, but I think, it was a tornado. These twisters are not common in Paksitan, and especially in this time of the year. I wish, some one had explained it in detail. What was weather pattern? Is there any emergency response availabe for such storms, or is there any warning system established? Long time ago, such tornado caused some deaths and destroyed many houses not far from this area, but elders of the area blamed it on Jinns. I called a friend in Sialkot to know details, but he was more interested in cricket match. Recommend
