KARACHI:

Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Hussein Syed will take on additional duties of the Karachi administrator, according to a Sindh government notification issued on Thursday.

This was decided by the government after Karachi Administrator Fazlur Rehman was hospitalised and given a leave for 90 days because his platelet level began fluctuating. After working for more than eight hours a day, especially during Muharram, doctors had advised the administrator to not work so hard and to undergo treatment.

DCO demands magisterial powers for CDGK

Meanwhile, the City District Government (CDGK) enterprises and investment promotions (E&IP) inspectors have fined 87 milk retailers for selling milk at higher prices and the E&IP has submitted the challans in courts.

The DCO has also written a letter to the Sindh home secretary and city judges to grant CDGK officers magisterial powers so that they can take legal action against the exploiters on the spot. By giving the officers these rights, people will benefit because the officers can impose fines and arrest culprits during raids to help curb exploitation, added the DCO.
