Security in girls’ hostels

Letter January 15, 2017
Naila Rind recently died under mysterious circumstances in Marvi Hostel at the University of Sindh

KARACHI: A 26-year-old position holder and final-year student, Naila Rind, recently died under mysterious circumstances in Marvi Hostel at the University of Sindh. Whatever the circumstances of the case, universities must provide better security to hostel residents, including restricting male staff from entering the premises off regular daytime duty hours. I appeal to the president, prime minister, chief of army staff, chief justice of Pakistan, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party and university administration to take notice of this serious issue because it is not only the question of Naila Rind, it is a matter of thousands of girls who live in hostels for work or study purposes. They will feel insecure after this suspicious incident and parents will not be willing to leave their daughters in such unsafe and unchecked environments.
