They include a minister and opposition leader.

The Election Commission on Monday declared invalid the educational degrees of Balochistan Assembly opposition leader Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind and another provincial minister, and sent their cases to the District Police Officer for further action.

Rind, who served as federal minister in the Musharraf regime, is the only PML-Q member left on the opposition benches as the rest of his colleagues, elected on PML-Q’s ticket joined the PPP-led coalition government in the province.

His degree from a madrassa was considered invalid by a committee constituted by the chief election commissioner. The committee comprising Election Commission and Higher Education Commission officials, after completing the initial hearings of the fake degree cases, had sent its recommendations to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) for further proceedings.

The CEC on Monday sent Rind’s case and that of another Balochistan Assembly member Maulvi Muhammad Akhunzada, who is the provincial minister for forest and wildlife, to the DPOs concerned to start criminal proceedings against them.
