LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has sought replies from the foreign affairs ministry and the Punjab government on a fresh petition against the permits given to Arab dignitaries for hunting houbara bustards.

On Friday, LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah also directed the authorities to apprise the court about the economic welfare activities to be or being carried out in Jhang and Bhakkar districts by the hunters in exchange of the permits.

The chief justice was hearing a petition filed by Advocate Sheraz Zaka, who argued the Supreme Court had granted permission to the government for issuing hunting permits legally.

The same apex court judgment directed the government the foreign dignitaries should not be given hunting permits unless they carried out welfare activities in the areas where hunting was allowed.

The court has adjourned the hearing till January 25.
