LAHORE: A man was murdered in Nawab Town on Sunday allegedly by his wife and nephew, who reported the case themselves to the police pretending it to be a botched robbery.

Around 1.30am, a woman called up the police to report that her husband, Khalid Mehmood, had been shot dead by unidentified robbers on offering resistance. She told police that two armed suspects barged into their house and started looting valuables. When her husband tried to stop them, they shot him dead and fled the scene.

A police team arrived at the house to collect forensic evidence and recorded statements of several witnesses. Investigators later learned that Khalid was not shot at by robbers but instead by his own nephew with the victim’s wife acting as an accomplice.

Police said the suspect, identified as Mehboob Khan, had developed relations with her aunt. When his uncle came to know about the affair, the suspects made a plan to kill him.

The suspects have confessed to their crime in police custody and have been booked for the murder.
