Changes to begin in first half of 2017

Following competition from Facebook's Workplace and Microsoft’s Teams, cloud-based team collaboration tool Slack has partnered with Google to improve its existing services.

“We’re partnering with Google to bring our shared customers a suite of deep integrations... many of you love using Slack and Google together — so much so that millions of Google Drive files are shared in Slack each month,” Slack announced in a post.

Microsoft’s Teams has the advantage of being able to integrate with Microsoft 365 and Skype along with One Drive, whereas Slack enjoyed no such association. With this partnership, Slack will be able to incorporate Google Drive along with Google Docs, Sheets and Slides together with a new Google Drive bot just made for Slack.

"Google and Slack share the same vision for the future of work: smart software could bring teams together and make all of their work and conversations seamlessly available in one place,” said Nan Boden, Head of Global Technology Partners, Google Cloud.

Google will also be helping Slack take advantage of Google’s technologies to scale its business, he added.

No specific date has been announced but the said changes are likely to begin in the first half of 2017.
