Yasir injures back, ruled out of tour match

Leg-spinner expected to play first Test against Australia on December 15

KARACHI: Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah has been ruled out of the three-day tour match against Cricket Australia XI after injuring his back during a training session at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns, Australia.

According to the team’s spokesperson, the leg-spinner picked up the injury during bowling at a team’s practice session yesterday.

“Yasir is getting treatment from medical experts who have advised him to rest for two days,” the official confirmed to The Express Tribune from Cairns.

“The injury is not serious. But the team management has decided not to field him for the upcoming tour match,” he said before adding that the spinner will be available for the opening Test against Australia, starting from December 15 in Brisbane.

“The rest of the squad has been preparing well for the series as the training sessions are being held as per the schedule,” he added.

The tour match against Cricket Australia XI, which starts tomorrow, will be a pink-ball day-night game, while the inaugural Test of the series will also be played under lights.

Former Australia Test batsman Brad Hodge will coach Cricket Australia XI against Pakistan with Western Australia batsman Will Bosisto captaining the young side.

Pakistan will play three Tests and five ODIs during their ongoing tour of Australia.
