Ayesha Zafar and Javeria Khan’s half-centuries went in vain as Pakistan Women lost to their New Zealand counterparts by five wickets to be clean swept 5-0 in the ODI series at the Saxton Oval in Nelson yesterday.

Pakistan Women, who had elected to bat first after winning the toss, could only make 220 runs as Thamsyn Newton claimed five wickets, while Amelia Kerr dismissed four Pakistani batters.

Openers Ayesha (50) and Nahida Khan (31) had given Pakistan a strong start, registering an 84-run opening stand to lay a strong foundation for the innings before Nahida was caught by Newton off Amy Satterthwaite’s delivery in the 20th over.

Javaria then came in and made 56 runs with Bismah Maroof after Ayesha had been caught leg-before by Kerr in the 24th over.

That partnership came to an end when Bismah (22) was caught by Kerr off Newton’s delivery in the 37th over with Pakistan 157-3 but it was only after when Javaria was dismissed that Pakistan collapsed entirely.

Iram Javed (12), Nida Dar (15), Asmavia Iqbal (10), Sidra Nawaz (13), Sana Mir (five) and Sadia Yousuf (naught) all lost their wickets for just 58 runs as Pakistan were only able to reach 220.

New Zealand Women reached the target comfortably as Satterthwaite smashed 18 boundaries in her 99-ball 123-run stay to become the first White Ferns batter to register three centuries in a single series.

Katie Perkins (23) and Newton (19) contributed with important knocks to take New Zealand across the line after Satterthwaite was dismissed by Sadia, who finished with figures of 3-49.
