SUKKUR: The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef) has said they are supporting the government and the people of Pakistan in their efforts to rid the country of polio and other diseases.

A Unicef representative said this on Sunday while visiting areas in Ghotki district where the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) is undertaking various projects.

He said that Unicef was working for child protection, health, childhood development, immunisation and nutrition. "We do not work alone," he said. "[We work] with the government, local communities and local organisations to carry out our activities properly." He added that Unicef wanted children to become healthy and useful citizens.

He said that he was excited about Unicef's important work in rural districts of the province with the partnership of SRSO. He added that it was an honour to work for children in Pakistan, including those who are most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
