LAHORE: Protest is a democratic right but politics of agitation and resistance has never benefitted any democratic system in the world and people who want to be in office should adopt democratic ways and strengthen parliament after winning elections, said Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana.

He was addressing the laptop distribution ceremony at Punjab University Faisal Auditorium on Thursday. “We should not level baseless allegations of corruption against each other to malign other’s reputation, rather we should focus on the success of Zarb-e-Azab,” he said.

The governor claimed that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would prove to be a game changer for the progress of Pakistan and the youth must play its role for the development of the country.

“Pakistan is full of talented people and the journey to progress must not stop,” he said, adding that the government had launched several schemes to empower youth and utilise their skills and ideas.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said young people were lucky to have been born in this age of technology and information.

“The world is accessible only by just one click on the internet,” he said. He lauded the efforts of the government for educational development in the country.

Higher Education Commission Executive Director Dr Arshad Ali said as many as 500,000 laptops were to be distributed among students for academic excellence during the five-year tenure.

Rafique distributed laptops among PhD scholars. Students who had not been given laptops gathered outside the auditorium and demanded laptops. The students from the Hailey College of Commerce said that they were not given laptops despite fulfilling the criteria set by the government.
