MULTAN: A boy died in a hospital after attempting suicide by self-immolation in Khanewal on Monday.

A police official said 25-year-old Malik Muhammad Hassan, a resident of Qasba Makhdoom and an electrician by profession, wanted to marry his neighbour Saima. He added Hassan’s family sent a marriage proposal to the girl’s family but they refused to accept the proposal. “At this, Hassan got disheartened and set himself on fire,” he further said.

He maintained Hassan was immediately shifted to Nishtar Hospital for treatment but he could not survive as he had suffered 80% burn injuries.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother Muhammad Hussain told the police that Hassan was in love with Saima for the last two years.

He said they wanted to marry but the girl’s family refused the proposal, which led Hassan to take the extreme step.
