Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Bowlers dominate as Lahore Blues on top against HBL

18 wickets fall on day, with bankers 90-9 in second innings

KARACHI: Bowlers came to the fore in the match between HBL and Lahore Blues as 18 wickets fell on the second day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy encounter at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad yesterday.

Lahore Blues had dismissed HBL on 170 on day one and would have been looking to establish a huge lead after resuming on 31-1. However, they were dismissed for 119 as Umar Gul claimed 5-39.

But despite conceding a 59-run lead, Lahore Blues came roaring back to leave HBL reeling at 90-9 at stumps as Shahid Nawaz claimed 4-27.

Meanwhile, Sajid Khan and Taj Wali took five and four wickets respectively to restrict WAPDA to 180 against Peshawar, who were 28-4 at stumps but had a 121-run lead.

At the National Stadium of Karachi, SSGC were in control at 304-5 in reply to Karachi Blues’ 206.

Elsewhere, UBL were 270-6 courtesy of Shan Masood’s 93-run knock after dismissing Islamabad for 275.

In the pool B matches, Muhammad Rizwan’s 95-run knock helped SNGPL post a target of 246 for Karachi Whites, who were 35-1 in their second innings.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi were 32-0 in their second innings but were still trailing PIA, who had scored 276 in their first innings, by 46 runs.

At the LCCA ground in Lahore, KRL resumed their first innings on 204-5 and added 148 runs to post 352 with the aid of Abdul Rehman (96) and Sardar Hasan (93) while at the end of play, Lahore Whites were in trouble at 127-5.
