MIRPUR: The faculty and academic staff of the state-run Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed (MBBS) Medical College in Mirpur have threatened to go on indefinite strike from October 25 to protest against non-payment of their dues for the last four months.

Dr Faisal Ghafoor Bhopal, chairman of the Mirpur chapter of the AJK Medical Teachers Association, along with Dr Nisar Ahmed announced this while talking to media on Saturday.

They said that the decision to go on strike was taken at the general body meeting of the faculty of the college on Satruday. They said that unless their pending salaries are released by Monday, they would stop working from Tuesday.

"The faculty and staff of the college is on the verge of starvation because of they have not been paid for the last four months,” Dr Bhopal said.

Dr Ahmed demanded that the government increase annual allocation for the college from Rs200 million to Rs1 billion.
