PARACHINAR: The Pakistan and Afghanistan border crossing at Kharlach, Kurram Agency, remained closed for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday following a suicide attack by militants at the area’s check-post on Friday.

The attack left two security personnel injured. This has posed difficulties to the Afghan and Pakistan transporters on both sides of the border.

A senior official at the site confirmed to The Express Tribune that the border will remain closed till the Afghan authority assured Pakistan of efforts to curb such acts of militancy.

“We have closed the Kharlach check-post, after security threats and the suicide attack on Friday which caused damage and injuries to our security personnel,” a senior official said.

He added that they had information of more attacks on the check-post and along the border in the coming days and to ensure security the federal authority had decided to close the border till further notice.

“We have lost millions as our trucks, loaded with edible items and cement, are stranded and we are unsure when they will be allowed to cross the border,” a transporter, Taj Akbar Bangash said.

Bangash added that many of the truck drivers had moved towards central Kurram to cross the border.
