Perhaps the most well rounded smartphone to come out this year, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 could have easily made it to the top of the podium. However the smartphone maker’s dream was cut short as its flagship device was plagued by a battery issue causing it to explode.

Note 7 users are now looking for alternatives after Samsung suspended the phone's production and issued another global recall.

Here is a list of five possible alternatives that provide more or less the same functionality as the Note 7 and can replace the ill-fated smartphone.

Google Pixel XL

Google’s latest smartphones seem to be the obvious choice for many as the phone employs the same Android OS while featuring the latest options available in hardware. The smartphone is equipped with a 5.5 inch qHD display and the latest Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4 GB RAM.

Compare this with Note 7’s 5.7 inch qHD display with Snapdragon 820 processor and a 4 GB RAM, it won’t be wrong to expect the same user experience from the two devices.

However it is worth mentioning that Google’s Pixel XL lacks the option of a Stylus, an iris scanner and the dual curved display limiting its functionality compared to the Note 7.

One Plus 3

The latest offering by One Plus is another suitable option for users abandoning the Note 7. A budget device with the flagship specs, the One Plus 3 offers a 5.5 fHD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor with 6 GB RAM which is more than the Note 7. Users can expect same, if not better, level of performance from the device as compared to the abandoned Samsung device.

One Plus 3 also comes in cheap as it is available for $399 in the US. However, the lower price tag does exclude the option to record 4K video and a lower resolution display when compared to the Note 7.

LG V20

LG’s flagship device, LG V20 has almost identical specs when compared to the Note 7 along with the added option of modularity giving the smartphone a lot more functionality than its rivals in the phablet league.

The V20 seems to be a good option for power users who can take advantage of the phone’s modularity at the same time providing the top hardware specs available in the smartphone industry.

The next alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 comes from its biggest competitor Apple. Apple’s new phablet iPhone 7 Plus seems like an obvious choice for those who what to switch to another operating software.

The iPhone 7 Plus falls short in the hardware department when compared to the Note 7 however Apple designs its smartphone in tandem with the OS which allows it to take full advantage of the phone’s capability resulting in exceptionally high levels of performance.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

If you are die-hard Samsung fan and don’t want to switch your loyalty, then the device that comes closest to the Note 7 is Samsung’s Galaxy S7 edge. The two devices are almost identical in terms of specs and design with the only difference being S7 edge’s smaller size, iris scanner and S Pen.

With the same design language and user interface, the S7 edge is the ultimate choice for smartphone users who were forced to forgo their ill-fated Note 7.
